Kat Ernst A trifecta is one of the most popular forms of exotic bets for greyhound racing punters, requiring you to correctly select the first three greyhounds past the post in any given race. The racing distance of US greyhound tracks are generally classified as: 5/16 of a mile (1,650 ft.) 3/8 of a mile (1,980 ft.) 7/16 of a mile (2,310 ft.) Greyhound tracks are also distinguished form other types of tracks by their mechanical lure - a stuffed rabbit that greyhounds chase around the track. In greyhound racing, the dogs actually grade themselves. When a greyhound begins its racingcareer, it is classified as a maiden, which means non-winner. If it wins, it advances to grade J. When it wins a grade J, it proceeds to D and so forth until it moves up the ladder to the top grade – grade A.
Types Of Bets Dog Racing
- Winner – As the name may suugest, a winner is the dog that crosses the finish line first.
- Place – This bet costs twice as much as the “winner” bet, as it pays money if your dog comes first or second. The odds are reduced – by how much depends on the individual bookmaker.
- Forecast – This is a bet where you pick two dogs, and specify the order in which you think they will finish the race. If they finish in the exact order you specified, you win.
- Reverse Forecast – Pick two dogs to finish first and second in the race – if they do so in any order, you win money. This costs twice as much as a regular forecast bet, as it is just two forecasts in one.
- Tricast – Pick three dogs – if they come in first, second and third in the specified order, you win.
- Reverse Tricast/All-Ways Trio – Pick three dogs, and if they all come in the top three, in any order, then you win money. This costs six times as much as a regular tricast, as it is six tricast bets all in one.
