The Origin
Blackjack Ko System
The blackjack KO Card Counting strategy has been introduced by Olaf Vancura and Ken Fuchs in their book “Knock-Out Blackjack”. It is considered to be the simplest counting system after Hi Lo Count. The difference between this system and the Hi Lo counting strategy is that KO system is an unbalanced count because in this system 7’s equal +1 instead of 0 like in the Hi Lo system and if you begin at zero and count down the entire deck using the Knock-Out Card Counting Strategy you are not going to finish on zero. To become a proficient card counter, you need to memorize the Knock-Out values of each card. In game conditions, you must be able to recall each Knock-Out value extremely quickly.
The prerogative of blackjack is that the game doesn’t require haste and you can see all the cards in front of you during the hand and count slowly. Here are the values of cards in KO Count System:

Looking at the card value chart above you can see that you shouldn’t remember much. If you can remember that the low cards are +1 and the high cards are -1 then everything will be good. You should remember that eights and nines are worth 0 so make sure you don’t mess this up because it will influence your running count. Once you can count one deck, it isn’t difficult to count multiple decks. The only change is the new value for the initial running count, which is necessary to make sure that you always end up with a final running count of +4.

Make the Counting Automatic
You should recognize the value of the cards instantly; it should become your second nature. You should be able to look at a card and recall its value of +1, 0 or +1 without pause. As the cards go by, you are to keep a running total in your head. You should bet more when you see that the total is high. The lower the total count, the less you should bet. A count that is high either direction indicates that the deck is heavy on the high or low side.
This is the least accurate of card counting systems for blackjack, but it’s popular because it is simple to implement and is a great start for a novice in card counting. Practice this counting strategy and then when you’re more experienced you can move onto more advanced card counting techniques. Blackjack is a numbers game and you need to make sure you have the best odds possible and you are unable to do this unless you execute some sort of a card counting.
